The Magic Lantern. This device is the 17th century equivalent to modern day slideshow projectors. One of the very first individuals to create and have a working model was a man by the name of Christiaan Huygens. This lantern has several functioning sections that play a role in it's operation. The lamp is the source of illumination which came from burning oil or gas and later on electricity. The reflector, which reflects the light to the condensing lens. The condensing lens focuses the light onto the slide that is being projected. The lens tube, which purpose is to intensify the illumination of the slide in order to project images from 6 to 12 feet wide. [15]
